Your Body's Original Design

The human body is not broken. It is running the wrong software.

This is the idea behind ODD — Original Design Decoded — and it sounds simple enough to be wrong. But the more time I spend in metabolic science, the more I think the frame is exactly right. Most of what we call modern lifestyle disease is not disease in the traditional sense. It is the predictable consequence of running ancient hardware on a diet and environment it was never designed for.

What evolution built

The human metabolic system evolved over roughly two million years. For almost all of that time, food was scarce, movement was constant, and the glucose spikes we experience after a modern meal — bread, rice, processed sugar — were essentially unknown. Our insulin response was calibrated for a world where carbohydrates arrived slowly, in small quantities, bundled with fiber.

The pancreas was not designed to manage the aftermath of a bowl of white rice, a glass of orange juice, and a pastry eaten in twenty minutes at a desk.

That is not a moral judgment about diet. It is a mechanical description of a mismatch.

The prediabetes problem nobody talks about

Ninety-six million Americans — roughly thirty percent of adults — are prediabetic. The vast majority are undiagnosed. They experience the symptoms daily: the energy crash two hours after lunch, the brain fog that settles in the mid-afternoon, the persistent cravings that no amount of willpower reliably stops, the weight that accumulates around the midsection despite reasonable effort.

These are not character failures. They are blood sugar events.

The tragedy is that this window — before the diagnosis, before the medication, before the downstream complications — is also the window when intervention is most effective. The body has not yet lost its ability to respond. It needs only the right inputs.

What restoration looks like

Restoring the original design does not require deprivation. It requires alignment.

Delphinol, derived from the maqui berry, has been shown in clinical trials to reduce post-meal glucose by up to thirty-three percent. Reducose, from mulberry leaf, slows the conversion of carbohydrates to glucose. Orafti GR, a chicory fiber, improves insulin sensitivity at the gut level. None of these are drugs. None require a prescription. All of them work by supporting the mechanisms the body already has rather than overriding them.

This is the design principle behind ODD M-01: not to replace the body's original system, but to remove the friction that has accumulated between how we live and how we were built to live.

The daily practice

The Japanese concept of kaizen — continuous small improvement — applies here more than any dramatic intervention. The glucose spike after breakfast that you barely notice today will have compounded, repeated daily for decades, into something you will notice very much at sixty.

This is not a frightening statement. It is a liberating one. The window for action is not tomorrow. It is this morning.

Original design is not a destination. It is a daily practice of returning.
